Welcome Culturally Responsive Teachers to LLSS 315 Spring 2012!
“One of the great challenges facing multicultural education today is the widening gap between its conceptualization as a redistribution of power and privilege in all aspects of schools and schooling and the practice of well-meaning, left-leaning educators who implement it in ways that recycle, rather than overturn, systemic power imbalances.” Christine Sleeter

Red Apple Tranist
In celebration of our Red Apple Transit Ride below:
In Honor of our Writing Marathon on the Red Apple Transit Writing Marathon
OUR RIDING/WRITING MARATHON DITTIE
We’re going for a ride on the Red Apple, the Red Apple, the Red Apple.
We’re going for a ride on the Red Apple, How about them apples!
We’re going for a ride, ride, ride and we’re going to write and read in style.
We’re going for a ride, ride, ride. Now wave to our classroom a goodbye!
We’re walking down the steps, (oh yes we are) and we’re walking out the door, put your foot to the floor.
We’re waiting for the bus, (now beam us up) for we’re going for a ride on the Red Apple Transit!
Adapted from the song: “Momma takin’ us to the Zoo Tomorrow”
Writing Marathon Song for Two Voices
Voice I
1. WALK, TALK, WRITE, READ
A Marathon of what you see.
-- -- What did you see?
Voice II
A marathon of storied space
We write, then share, then move on to another place.
Voice I
2. WALK, TALK, WRITE, READ
A sight, a smell, a sound you found.
-- -- What did you find?
Voice II
A marathon of storied space
We write, then share, and look around for other sounds.
Voice I
3. WALK, TALK, WRITE, READ
If you’re stuck, you’re in luck.
-- -- Unstuck your luck!
Voice II
A marathon of storied space
We write, then share, as writers do we’re colleagues for each other.
Voice I
4. WALK, TALK, WRITE, READ
Share your thoughts, at no cost.
-- -- There’s no cost!
Voice II
A marathon of storied space
We write, then share, you’re in a flow, away you go.
A marathon of storied place - we thank you for this time to scribe together.

Google Map Activity
In reflecting on who we are and where we come from, we began to approach this personal inquiry from a sense of place. We were asked to think of a place important to us using Google Map to find it. The photo album below highlights our significant places we call home or homey.
My special place is my childhood home in Philadelphia, PA. In this humble row home I grew up with my six siblings and parents learning the values of freedom, responsibility, love, education and family.
